2 Firme

A reshuffle job of rare and common oldies picked from other compilations. Highlights include tracks by such acts as The Conservatives, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Dupremes, The Uptites and Eddie Benitez. Another good compilation to have if your collection is limited and you are on a budget. I gave it a lower rating since it is completely made up of repeats.

The Serenaders

"Only Mine", "I'll Cry Tomorrow", "The Letter" and "The Masquerade Is Over" are the the best off of this release. Lots of upbeat songs with some Acappella mixed in.

The Blue Jays

Another excellent Relic Record Productions release. Good liner notes and sound quality. Besides the title track, "Tears Are Falling", "Let's Make Love", "A Casual Kiss" and "That's All It Took" make this a must have for the Doo Wop fan.

Playin' Hard To Get, West Coast Girls

"Write Me A Letter" by The Blossoms, "I Want To Get Married" by The Delicates and "How Long Must This Fool Pay" by Yvonne Carroll were the top tracks for me here. I really did not care much for the rest of the material but I had to have a clean copy of The Delicates' song so I picked up.

Magic Touch & Friends

Killer sweet soul tracks on this Collectables Records compilation. Magic Touch jams include "Step Into My World", "Dear Mother" and "A Woman Will Do Wrong". Other tracks well worth mentioning are "What Did I Do Wrong" by The Weeknights, "Most Of All" and "Second Hand Love" by Diana Taylor & Nat Brown and "Sweet Slumber" by The Sabres. A must for your collection.

Timothy Wilson

The first release featured here is a monster. A must have for any serious soul music fan. "Say It Again", Baby, Baby Please" and "My Queen Of Hearts" are a few of the outstanding tracks included. The second release is later work that is more focused on dance numbers. "Who Babe" is the only decent track for me but not a great one.

Ace Spectrum

As with Act I there are only a couple of good slow tracks here by Ace Spectrum. I had to skip through a lot of upbeat numbers to get to "Just Like In The Movies" and "I Don't Want To Play Around" but that unfortunately turns up the beat around the half way mark. You can skip the Inner Spectrum CD.

Chess Uptown Soul

Many of the well known Chicago soul classics with that superior sound quality that Kent / Ace Records delivers make up this compilation. Billy Stewart, The Knight Brothers, The Radiants, Bobby Moore & The Rhythm Aces........a good pick up if you do not have an extensive collection.

Act I

A couple of solid slow soul jams in "Friends Or Lovers" and "Your Don't Love Me Anyhow". The rest are mostly upbeat dance numbers.

Chi-Sound Soul Survey 1976-1982

A good batch of slow jams from the late 70's included in this compilation. The sound here for the most part really did not keep me interested too long. The only track I found myself listening through all the way was "Win Or Lose" by Windy City.
