Sly, Slick & Wicked

I am going against many here but I do not enjoy re-sung material at all. It simply loses the original sound that just can't be replicated by most groups. I bought the "Tonight's the Nite" release only because it was the original recording of that track and I could now put away my 45 rpm copy. I bought the "Confessin' A Feeling " release just for the purpose of collecting but have listened to it maybe twice. I give "Tonight's The Nite" a 10 but can't do the same for the rest.

The Hollywood Saxons

A well put together look at The Hollywood Saxon made possible by the people at Famous Groove Records. No liner notes and with overall good sound quality. Highlights include, among others "Everyday Is A Holiday", "Trying", "Diamonds", "Is It True" and "Doing It Right The First time". A recommended addition to your collection.

The Impressions

Grab The Impressions Complete A And B Sides release and you will be set with most of their good material as many of the nice tracks on the other two releases are included.

Diana Ross & The Supremes

The anthology set contains their well know hits that have been played very often. The Motown Legends release has the beautiful track "Mr. Blues" which is well worth the price of the disc alone. A little bit on the expensive side is the Meet The Supremes release which has many nice rare ballads. Only draw back is that it contains 2 or 3 different recordings of the same track. The two in one release is a mix of their standard material with a few nice ballads mixed in.

The Soul Of Money

Rare soul by Los Angeles area artists. This compilation will not disappoint. Being that it is a Kent / Ace release you get plenty of liner notes and excellent sound quality. The Larks, Toni & The Showmen, Gwenn Stewart and M-M's & The Peanuts highlight this collection. Volume 3 has a very nice ballad, "Hard Times Are Coming" by and unknown duo plus it contains the cleanest recording that I have ever heard on one of my favorite oldies, "Open Up Your Eyes".

Huggy Boy Presents......

Take a lesson from the master Art! Huggy Boy knew how to pick 'em and stay true to the R&B sound we love such much in L.A. These discs are packed with killer rare soul and have good sound quality. A must for your collection.

The Radiants

A bit disappointed with this release. I was hoping to have at least a couple of nice slow ballads. Mostly all is mid tempo or up tempo northern soul. If you are looking for ballads then you might consider skipping this one.
