The Four Buddies

The Four Buddies........"Just Enough of Your Love"......I should be able to get a nice ballad or two on this release. Well, I was wrong. "I Waited" is OK but not enough for me to recommend this one. The sounds are too early 50's for my taste. I leave this one for the most hardcore of Doo Wop fans.

"I Want To Marry You" drove the purchase of this release. Only one other track caught by ear, "Don't Be A Fool".

Big highlight here in "Tears in My Eyes" by The Chords. Other notable tracks include "Madly", "I Am To Blame" and "Don't Cry Anymore" by The Del Knights and "Baby Come Back" by Lee Andrews And The Hearts.

A few outstanding mellow ballads in "Please" by Don Julian And The Meadowlarks, "Heavenly Angel" and "Memories Of El Monte" by The Penguins and the classic standard "Since I Don't Have You" by The Skyliners.

Their big hit "There's A Moon Out Tonight" was, for me the sole highlight in this release. They have other ballads here but they just did not grab my attention for too long. Best off picking up one of the many compilations out there with this track.

I purchased the Collectables Records release and after being impressed by their ballad "Never Will Part" I decided to take a chance on the other release only to gain "Wish I Could Be There". Other notable tracks are "Your Love Is All I Need" and their cover of "For Your Precious Love"

The Harptones / The Jive Five

Later material by two very popular Doo Wop era groups. I found the material by The Harptones a bit too mellow, and I love slow ballads.The Jive Five highlights include "Don't Believe Him Donna", "Baby You're My Only Love" and "Never Never Lie". Again, this is early 1980's material so don't buy expecting the true 50's sound.
