Simply a must have for any fan of the East L.A. sound. Highlights include "Leave Her Alone", "There Is Something On Your Mind" and "My Rainbow". Sound quality varies.

The Underground Oldies Bible
I was surprised when I picked up this set and went to play it. It is one big mess! I had heard complaints about people not being able to open some of the MP3 files but I did not have any issues. You get a big box with one disc containing all repeats, sound quality is poor, sound leveling was not used. Even though the label and CD were professionally printed, to me the contents appear to have been slapped together by an amateur in a hurry. Below is the track list. No way I can recommend this to anyone even if it had a thousand tracks, save your money.

Look Back & Smile
A few rare tracks by the Train Robbers, The Fuller Bros., Lee Williams & The Cymbals and The Soul Sensations. The rest are well know standard slow jams. Very good sound quality.

Boulevard Nights
Another compilation here with the "Boulevard Nights" title. All repeats but we worn that "Who Has The Last Laugh Now" by Bloodstone is the the re-sung not original version.

Slow Jamz From Back In Da Day
I had previously posted another compilation with the same name and from the same label. This one has a few different tracks such as "I Destroyed Your Love" by Terry Huff & Special Delivery, "Love Jones" by Brighter Side Of Darkness and "Wish I Could Talk To You" by The Sylvers. This one will make a nice addition to your collection.

Mind & Matter
Numero Groups keeps amazing me with their work uncovering rare soul harmony jams. "Now That I Don't Have You" is a killer sweet soul jam. Other tracks of interest are "Virgin Lady" and "I Don't Know Why (I Love You Like I Do)". Top notch sound quality and liner notes as always from the Numero Group. A recommended addition to your collection.

Herb Johnson
Nice work here by the folks at Philly Archives bringing to light this obscure artist. Includes a good batch of liner notes but sound quality does vary. Highlights include "Tell Me So", "Where Are You" and "Guilty".

Doctor Good Soul
Only a few nice slow jams here. "Give It Up" by Top Shelf, "Stay Together Young Lovers" by Ben Aiken and "He Don't Really Love You" by The Delfonics. The rest were too bluesy or upbeat for my taste.

Northern Soul Of Revue
I hit and miss on some compilations and this was one of the misses. I was hoping to get a good recording of Lens Woods' "I'm In Love" but that was the track with the poorest sound quality here. Skip this one if you are looking for sweet soul.

Old Skoolin'
I picked this one some years back hoping the sound quality on "Somebody Please" would have been better that was was out. No such luck. Besides that track and "Me And You" by Brenton Wood nothing else gained much of my attention. You will not miss much passing up on this one and the two good tracks are available in many other compilations.

The Music Merchant Story
I hit the skip button more times that I would have hoped for on this compilation. Highlights include "I Don't See You In My Eyes Anymore" by Brotherly Love and the couple of Smith Brother's tracks. Good sound quality and plenty of liner notes.

Cruizin' To Motown
Standard, over played tracks make up this two volume compilation. good for the new collectors of those casual oldie fans.

Slow Grind
A batch of slow jams from the 70's and 80's. Highlights include "Friends By Day (Lovers By Night)" and "I'll Erase Away Your Pain" by The Whatnauts plus standard tracks by The Delfonics, The Stylistics, The Moments, Linda Jones and The Chi-Lites. If you like kiddie soul there is Spoon Bread with their take on "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and The 21st Century with "Child".

Deep Soul
A mix of sweet soul and deep soul with many common favorites. Highlights include "Let's Do It Again" by The Staple Singers, "Body And Soul" by The Soul Generation, "Look Over Your Shoulder" by The Escorts, "Check It Out" by Tavares and a few others we all know well. If you are on a budget this collection can be found for bargain prices online. Sound quality is good and includes liner notes to give us a bit of history behind the tunes.

Solid Soul
Lots of volumes with songs that I skipped through after only a few seconds of play time. Volume 4 by far contains the best selection of slow jams. Highlights include "She Broke His Heart", by The Just Brothers, "Candy" by The Jive Five, "Stay Together Young Lovers" by Ben Aiken, "It Won't Hurt" by The Gentlemen Four, "Can't Get Over Losing You" by Donnie Elbert, "It Hurts So Good" by Katie Love & The Four Shades Of Black, "Ooh I Love You" by The Cashmeres, "If It's For Real" by Porgy & The Monarchs and "Ooh Baby Baby" by The Magnificent Seven. Excellent sound quality just wished there were more sweet soul jams in this set.
