From The Old Side Doo Wop Vol. 3

A dose of rare Doo Wop that will keep you in the clouds all day and night. The fellas are at it again digging deep for those not so common ballads and sharing their vinyl treasures with us. Killer tunes by The Bassettes, The Rock-A-Fellas, The Comic Books, Ruby and Her Swinging Rocks, The Downbeats, The Sweeties and many others. A must for the Doo Wop aficionado. All tracks taken directly from vinyl sources so all associated anomalies will be present.

Pro Club Records Vol. 2

A nice deep soul track kicks this set off then more of a mid to late 70's vibe takes over followed by a couple uptempo tracks and some Tejano heat. If you dig a variety of soul styles this will be a nice pick up. Highlights include "Listen To The Rain", a nice cover of "So I Can Love You", "Little Girl", Foolish Things" and "Listen To My Song". All taken directly from vinyl sources.

Smokey Robinson And The Miracles

No need to list the standout tracks as they are all pretty well known. Everyone needs materiel by the living legend Smokey Robinson to truly have a collection of R&B music. Many, many comps out there, all with pristine sound quality, so buy with confidence. My favorite album is "What Love Has..." and also the hardest to find at a decent price.

The Dore Story

Odd ball CD that features all ballads. Pretty much everything is available on other Dore compilations but if you are on a budget and want only ballads this would make a good buy. Sound quality is better on other legit comps out there.

The MIller Sisters

Besides "Please Mr. Disc Jockey" I was not too familiar at all with the rest of the material by The Miller Sisters. It was a pleasant surprise to find a nice batch of good ballads on this compilation such as "Guess Who", "How I'm I To Know", "My Own", "You Made Ma A Promise" and "Until You Come Home I'll Walk Alone". Sound quality is pretty good. I recommended addition for those who enjoy the early New York Doo Wop sound.

The Poplar Records Story

A couple of killer Doo Wop ballads by the Debutantes, "Memories" and "Going Steady" made this one a sure pick up for me. "My Vow" by Colly Williams and Group, "Why Do You Treat Me This Way" by The Belvederes and "My Picture Of You" by The Enchamtones are also good ballads. Overall for the type of rare material on this compilation the sound quality is pretty good.

Bandera Doo Wop

I previously posted another compilation on the Bandera Records label but can honestly say this is a much better pick just based on sound quality. Check out my Instagram account for a little sample of a nice ballad from The Boomerangs.

Soul Chant

Deep, deep raw soul from the Malaco label that does not come up frequently. Nice ballads in "I Won't Be The Last To Cry", "That's How Much (I Love You)" and "No Good Man". Overall the materail, from the point of view of someone who prefers sweet soul, is decent but not good enough to me to recommend you go out looking for it. Excellent sound quality.

Soul Discovery

I hesitated for a while on picking this one up until I found it for a low price. The Peaches track "Baby Think It Over" was the lone standout. The rest of the materiel is hardcore deep soul that might not appeal to most seeking sweet ballads.
